Borobudur. The largest Buddhist Temple of the World. Java

Borobudur is the biggest temple on the earth. The monument built in 9th century contains more than 50.000 cubic metres of stones.

Dawn is the best time to visit the temple. You can feel spiritual energy surrounding stone complex.

Borobudur is a huge stupa in the form of a truncated pyramid with 500 Buddha statues.

The temple was abandoned throughout centuries and buried under layers of volcanic ash.


The architectural style of temple is classified as Central Javanese. According to Buddhist inscriptions Borobudur was built by kings of Sailendra Dynasty.


The platforms of stupa are decorated with 2.600 relief panels.

The stone panels tell the story of Sudhana, Manohara and Lalitavistara.



The main restoration works were carried between 1973 and 1983. Eight years later Borobududor gained the status of a World Heritage site.
