Hoi An - Old harbour town in Vietnam.

Hoi An has attracted many tourists and backpackers for last 10 years. Between 17th and 19th century Hoi An played major role in international trade in South East Asia. Today this Unesco World Heritage old town has still some historic buildings in good shape.

Japanese covered bridge was built at the end of 16th century.

The Chinese and Japanese traders stayed in town in waterfront street during spring months. Some of them lived here permanent.

Today 3% of Hoi An's population are ethnic Chinese.

Though new bridge Cam Nam connects both river banks, local people prefer to travel by boats.

Hoi An's ceramic is famous around world. The oldest fragments were dated from 2th century BC. Over 250 000 pieces of good preserved ceramics were recovered from 15th century wreck located 22 miles away coast.
Today many shops sell new ceramics for tourist and fake dog tags of American soldiers.
