New murals in Wat Manolom. Luang Prabang.

Wat Manolom in Luang Prabang was found in 14th century. The temple was partly destroyed during skirmishes between French and Thai troops in the end of 19th century.

The Jataka tales refer previus births of the Buddha. The canonical book in Pali language consist 547 different poems. In Laos and Thailand jataka stories are display as temple's murals.

Thanks to UNESCO grant many restoration works in Luang Prabang are in continuously progress.

Local artists are involved in temple's reconstruction.

Buddhist murals have long history. The oldest were painted in caves located in remote places.

Some first murals were discovered along the Silk Road. Jataka cave's murals in Ajanta were created around 5th century AD.

Today the art of jataka murals is still vivid in Laos. We can admire colorful stories from old poems. The longest tales are still performed in dance during particular holidays.
