Pha That Luang in Vientiane. Laos

Pha That Luang was built in 16th century on the ruins of Khmer temple. It is the most famous Vientiane's landmark located 3 km from Mekong river.

Pha That Luang is a Buddhist stupa. The stupa and surrounding wats were destroyed during several wars with Burma and Siam in 18th & 19th century.

What we see today, it is rebuilt stupa in accordance with Deleporte's sketches.

Original stupa was covered with gold leaves.

The cloister in Pha That Luang contains Buddha images.

There are classic Lan Xang and Khmer sculpture.
