Toraja wooden granary panels. Tribal art from Sulawesi

The enormous wealth of primitive visual art has survived to this day in Tana Toraja. Houses and barns are decorated with wooden panels depicting tribal symbols in red, orange, yellow and black .

Our Toraja guide Nico would like to do necessarily an extra "business" with us.

The houses in his family village where we stayed over night were decorated only with new panels.
I wished to give him "additional deal " and asked - Where do you keep the old panels?
-I burned all.

Can you believe it?
In Rantapao a new panel of size 80 x 60 cm can be purchased for $ 50 - $ 80.
